2. Margaret O’Carroll A medieval Irish noblewoman. She was known as ‘Margaret of Hospitable’ due to her work in the arts, literary festivals.

3. María de la Cruz (1912–1995) She is known for her work regarding the rights of women, her radio program, and her writings.

Homophone

A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different spelling and meaning.

1. Cached > Cashed

  • The king had a cache of gold hidden away.
  • It was an exciting day as I recieved and cashed my very first paycheck!

2. Horse > Hoarse

  • Sandy is the name of her beautiful new horse.
  • She was to hoarse to sing for her concert.

3. Wholly > Holy

  • She was wholly involved in the entire design of the party.
  • The wedding was a beautiful holy ceremony celebrating the sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

Antonyms

An Antonym is a word that has the opposite meaning of another word.

1. Leave > Arrive

  • Please leave on time.
  • Please arrive on time.

2. Poor > Rich

  • They were so poor that they could not even afford milk for the baby.
  • They were so rich that they could afford to purchase milk for those in need.

3. Left > Right

  • She writes with her left hand.
  • She writes with her right hand.

Synonyms

A Synonym is a word or phrase that means close to or exactly the same as another word.

1. Mistaken > Improper

  • He is mistaken thinking that way.
  • He is improper in his thinking.

2. Sincere > Loyal

  • She is sincere in her thoughts.
  • She is loyal to her subjects.

3.  Contemplate > Think

  • Do you contemplate people wanting change?
  • Do you think you will be allowed to come?
