Biographies

Grace Patricia Kelly (1929 – 1982) An American Actress who married Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

General William Floyd (1734 – 1821) Born and raised in Long Island, New York. He was the first delegate from New York  to sign the Declaration of Independence. You can visit the Floyd Estate in Long Island, a home filled with history.

Leon Jaworski (1905- 1982) An attorney in Houston, Texas, and Partner in the law firm Fulbright & Jaworski. He was the special prosecutor for the US. Department of  Justice.

Homophone

A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but has a different spelling and meaning.

1. Knap > Nap

  • He climbed a small knap of a hill.
  • The baby just woke up from an afternoon nap.

2. Latter > Ladder

  • I meant the latter explanation.
  • The step on the ladder is cracked.

3. Peel > Peal

  • Please peel the potatoes for me.
  • She burst into a peal of merry laughter.

Antonyms

An Antonym is a word that has the opposite meaning of another word.

1. Pupil > Teacher

  • She was an excellent pupil.
  • Mr. Peterson was her favorite teacher.

2. Wide > Narrow

  • The hallway was wide enough for the sofa to be carried to the next room.
  • The hallway was to narrow for the sofa to be carried to the next room.

3. Rainy > Sunny

  • It was a rainy day.
  • It was a sunny day.

Synonyms

A Synonym is a word or phrase that means close to or exactly the same as another word.

1. Delicious > Savory

  • The steak was delicious.
  • The steak was savory.

2.  Agree > Concur

  • I completely agree with your explanation.
  • I completley concur with your explanation.

3.  Clumsy > Awkward

  • He is such an awkward person.
  • He is a clumsy person.
